Our stalwart volunteers, Jenny Thomas and Carol Robinson, were crowned Guisborough Town Council’s citizens of the year at the annual Town Council Assembly on 22nd September. This well-deserved honour was bestowed for all their work for Gisborough Priory Project, but in particular for organising events and fundraising over many years.
Both Jenny and Carol started volunteering with us in 2007 when we began work in the woodland gardens. They, together with Katherine Appleton, have been the driving force in setting up and running events both on and off site to raise the profile of our group and to encourage new visitors by providing a range of fun and interesting activities for all.
Jenny said afterwards, “It was a lovely, convivial evening. We met lots of different people and enjoyed the buffet and entertainment from Peter Howe”.
At the Town Council Assembly the Lady Mayoress, Alma Thrower, gave a brief speech outlining what we have achieved so far. Jenny and Carol also received a cheque for £500, one of a number of small grants given by the council to local groups. This money will go towards the costs of running the priory site.
