Throughout our open days for this year’s Festival of British Archaeology, we worked to uncoover one of the lost paths in the gardens.

The path that we have begun to uncover used to link the Monks’ Walk with the formal gardens. So far we have found a shale surface, similar to those in other parts of the garden. The edge of the path seems to be lined with sandstone, although it is not yet clear whether this is a deliberate edging or not. We will continue to investigate this path in the coming months.
